PROGRAM: For our 14th Year at Camp Franklin Park, we are going to have fun under the Big Top! They will work on age appropriate Girl Scout activities, put forth by other Girl Scouts working toward their Girl Scout's high recognitions, like Silver Trefoils. Each unit will have a chance at community service hours as we pay our gratitude to the park for having hosted our camp for 14 years, as well as a more Global endeavor. Although campers have fun in the sun at Camp Franklin Park, we like to have plenty of water activities to cool off. Girls will swim Monday, Wednesday, and Tuesday/Thursday (three days) and there is always a cool surprise on Friday to keep the heat at bay. Therefore, WEAR YOUR SWIMSUIT EVERYDAY!
In addition to all of that, each camper and STAFF members who wish to, will be decorating a T-Shirt provided from home. PLEASE WEAR A PRE-WASHED, INEXPENSIVE, WHITE T-SHIRT, labeled WITH NAME, PACKED FOR MONDAY, THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP. Your camper will exchange this white t-shirt for a camp t-shirt to be worn Monday through Thursday. The white shirts will be prepped and ready when it is time for their unit to make their shirt. The decorated white shirts will be used for our celebration on Friday.
Also on Friday in the morning, the girls will have an opportunity to SWAP (Share With A Pal) with other campers. A SWAP is an inexpensive, usually hand-made, trinket that is attached to a safety pin and is traded with other campers and staff. They can reflect the theme, camp, or a Girl Scout related item, or anything else that the camper wishes. Campers are responsible for making their own SWAPS at home. Each camper should prepare anywhere from 25-50 SWAPS, REMEMBER TO BRING ON FRIDAY, IN A labeled PLASTIC BAG.
SWIMMING: We will be swimming on Monday, Wednesday, and Tuesday/Thursday. Each camper will be given our GS swim test on Monday and then will be able to swim in the appropriate pool. Any camper not wishing to take the swim test will ONLY be allowed to swim in the shallow play area. Please do not remove our swimsuit ribbons, as these indicate the campers' swimming ability to the Lifeguards and Staff. If your family chooses to go to the pool after camp, the campers will have a County Pool Day pass stamp that allows them to re-enter at no charge that day. Have your daughter wear her swimsuit every day as she will swim most days and Friday will be a day of water fun.
FISHING: We have been given permission by the park manager to fish in the stocked pond in the park. It is simply a catch and release program, but the girls will be managing a pole and baiting a hook. All water safety standards will be abided by a supervising adult and wonderful helping hands will be on call for any worm-phobias.
ARCHERY: We are pleased to offer archery again this year to our Junior campers. In accordance with GSUSA Safety standards, it will be taught by a certified archery instructor.
